Under one roof for one day: working to end chronic homelessness

PHC.web_1.jpgOn Friday, December 7, approximately 400 volunteers, a large group of public servants, non-profit agencies, faith-based organizations, and others will gather at Project Homeless Connect (PHC) to help people who are homeless in our community. However, PHC is not just another occasion to feed and clothe homeless people so that life on the streets is more tolerable. The volunteers and organizations of PHC will assemble under one roof to provide the homeless with the opportunity to find the help they need to become housed.

PHC aims at ending homelessness, not just at making it a more-comfortable situation. PHC links homeless individuals, veterans, and families to housing, medical services, social service providers and veterans services. This one-day event is about breaking cycles of homelessness, easing access to services, and ending chronic homelessness.

PHC is sponsored by the Knoxville and Knox County Mayors’ Office of the Ten-Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness. The Ten-Year Plan’s partners in PHC are Knox Area Veterans Stand Down and Remote Area Medical.
